17th January: Berlin Wall.

The Berlin Wall: Or what is left of it.

As soon as I saw it, I felt as if my heart dropped. It was stark and bare. It's surroundings had been landscaped most appropriately. Grey, and empty.

My Mum and Dad were in the Army and were both posted in Berlin at the time of the wall and both got to see its fall. My Mum especially, says it was one of the best experiences of her life and she was so excited when I told her I was going to Berlin.

I had imagined the wall to be much bigger. Much, much bigger. It was so thin and not so tall!

We went to the museum behind called Topographie des Terrors.

It was all about the Second World War: the concentration camps, the leaders, and the people who tried to go against it. There was some fascinating images and some very graphic, hard images of people hanging, being publicly embarrassed and shot. It was a hard morning and I actually had to stop, sit down and reflect for a moment.

In fact, for me I think this photo best summed it all up. Madness.
